AWA Legislative Action Committee Is Back In Action!!

August 17, 2026 7:14 PM | Anonymous member (Administrator)

At long last, the AWA Legislative Action Committee (LAC) is back in action!!
Doug Mcfarland MS, RPA is now the committee chair and open to new volunteers! With all the threats to Section 106, now is a great time to get involved.

The LAC aims to keep the membership up to date on relevant legislative activity through various channels, such as the Society for American Archaeology, National and Washington Trusts for Historic Preservation, Preservation Action, the Coalition for American Heritage, and the State Heritage Caucus. The LAC Chair may also be the AWA's Government Affairs Network of State Representatives (GANSR) representative.

The LAC shares information with the Board and encourages the AWA membership to take action; when merited, the LAC provides advice and guidance on how to do so. For example, the Committee may draft comments on pending legislation for the Board to sign, or the Committee might prepare articles for the AWA newsletter to inform the membership about important regulatory issues. The LAC also responds to inquiries about legislation posed to the association by members or the general public.

For more information or to get involved, please reach out to Doug at awa.legislativeaction@gmail.com or fill out the AWA Volunteer Sign Up Form!
