Explore the archaeology and cultural heritage of the Inland Northwest at Spokane Archaeology Day!

Held in October on the grounds of the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture in Spokane, Washington, this free annual event joins in the statewide celebration of archaeology in the spirit of International Archaeology Day. Visitors of all ages are welcome to connect with archaeologists, learn about the past, and discover why preserving cultural heritage matters.

Through hands-on activities, demonstrations, exhibits, and presentations, visitors can explore the methods archaeologists use to study the past. Activities may include mock excavations, archaeological survey, historic artifact identification, flintknapping demonstrations, and exploring past lifeways through animal bones and other material remains. Whether you’re bringing the family, exploring an interest in archaeology, or simply curious, there’s plenty to discover.

Volunteer

Spokane Archaeology Day is run entirely by volunteers and made possible through small donations from regional organizations such as the Association for Washington Archaeology. The event brings together volunteers representing local firms, agencies, tribes, universities, and more. Anyone is welcome to volunteer, whether you work in archaeology or simply want to help.
